In 2001, the Crop Circle season started clearly outside of England (like Germany and some countries in eastern Europe), probably very much due to the frequent rain. The news value in other European countries was higher than in England, hence a few of these non-UK formations appeared in international press. In July England caught up with its usual rate of Crop Circle manifestation, though many would agree that the technical quality in general was lower than in previous years.

Yet some of the August Wiltshire formations were very fascinating. In Milk hill the field was decorated with an awesome six-armed pattern composed of some 400 circles! A little later two totally bizarre patterns appeared in Chibolton on the same field in one night. The first was a photographic image of a humanoid face (constructed using a coarse newspaper type dither pattern), the second a binary code, which was an "alien counterpart" for a message that was sent into outer space in 70's. The origin of all these formations is still unknown.

Also in 2001, for the first time in the history of Crop Circles a formation received an addition while researchers were studying it. This took place in Holland in late summer. The researchers did not notice anything out of the ordinary while investigating the formation, but as they turned to exit, they noticed a small circle that was not there when they entered!

It does seem that the 1990's were the true golden era of Crop Circles. However, there are no signs that this phenomenon would cease to fascinate people world-wide also in the years to come. The investigations are continuing, attracting more scientific attention. At the same time on the spiritual side more channelled messages are coming in, supposedly from the "cosmic" creators of the Circles. Perhaps very soon we should get prepared to witness a genuine Crop Circle being created live before TV cameras!
