THE 2001 MILKHILL SPIRAL
2. Person 1 stays to hold the end of a string, where the radius (about 75 m) is marked in advance (or the string is 75 m long). Person 2 takes the string and walks back along the tramline. Starting at the tramline he (or she) then starts walking down the circular arc, keeping the string as tight as he can. At the same time he (or another person following) counts the steps (also determined in advance) to the center point of the nect circle. Person 3 stays at that point and hands another string to person 4, while holding on to the other end. While number 2 continues with his trail, 4 returns along the path (at the same time making it clearer). The walking speed can still remain in 40m/min; you only need to leave a trail that is somehow visible. The longest distance is walked by number 2, again about 240 m, making another 6 minutes. Since some small pauses must be made, we can add another 2 minutes. At this point the other people can already start making the small
circles along the first arc. To keep things clear, we won't go into
that yet, just remember the time; 14 minutes. Total time at this stage 14 minutes. |
